When you click on a link below, the audio will open & play via Quicktime in a new tab or ask you if you want to open or save the file depending on which browser you are using & your system configuration.

When listening to our audio, you will hear lots of different things, sometimes all happening at once. Our scanner is programmed to automatically listen to 2 channels from the fire department radios - the Lowry Crossing fireground (LCFD's own talk channel), & Fire Operations (the local area dispatch channel for this part of Collin County). You'll hear Collin County Dispatch, Lowry Crossing FD, sometimes PHI Air Med and/or AMR ambulance. If another department gets a call, you'll even hear Collin County Fire Operations dispatch them. Our audio files below may have been edited to protect the privacy of our customers in cases where an address or some type of personal information would have normally been heard. Note that if no communication is occurring, the recording process does not record, so all transmissions appear consecutive and without delays. Sometimes the scanning process cuts off a small portion of a transmission, usually at the beginning, and if there is more than one transmission at the same time on different channels, only one will have been recorded.

All of our personnel are assigned numbers. "01" is the Chief, "02" is the Assistant Chief, and so on. To look up the rest of the personnel numbers, see our online roster (the link is on menu to the left). Our apparatus are also assigned numbers. "6530" or sometimes just "30" would be our engine, "31" is our booster, "32" is our second engine, "33" is our rescue, and "35" is the Chief's truck used for first response.

"IC" is the Incident Commander. This is usually the first person on scene and/or the most qualified person on scene who calls all the shots. You will most likely hear a "size up" of the scene which is a brief description of the situation for incoming units, followed by the statement "01 has Command" (for example). You will also hear assignments being given and may also hear different "sectors", especially on a fire or motor vehicle accident (also referred to as a MVA or “10-50”). Different sectors (groups assigned to perform specific tasks) may consist of patient care, traffic control, LZ (landing zone for an incoming medical helicopter), extrication (cutting apart a vehicle to gain access to a patient), and fire suppression, just to name a few.

The LCFD records and reviews all incidents as part of our ongoing effort toward improving our service. Please click on the following links to hear the fire department diligently working to serve you:
