10 Things You Can Do To Help Your Emergency Care Providers

  • Mark your address clearly on both sides of your mailbox so emergency personnel can find your address as quickly as possible.
  • Turn on your porch light and have someone flag down or meet the EMS workers so they can find you more rapidly.
  • Teach your children how and when to call 911.
  • Have an adequate number of smoke detectors in your home and make sure that they work properly.
  • Make an escape plan and establish a meeting place (preferably in front of the house). Practice it with your family.
  • Keep a charged fire extinguisher at each end of your house, one in your garage, and one in your car.
  • Teach your family what to do in case of fire, tornado, and other disasters.
  • Learn CPR and basic first aid. Encourage your family and friends to learn CPR.
  • When you call 911, let the dispatcher know if everyone is out of the house (for fires), or how many patients there are and how severe the injuries are (any accident). Remember to try and stay calm.
  • Please yield to all emergency vehicles.
Other ways you can help:
